Two businesspersons on Monday urged youths in the
country to take advantage of available opportunities
and be proactive in choosing careers that could earn
them a living.
They gave the advice in interviews with newsmen in
Lagos. Adeshola Osipitan, the Chief Executive Officer,
Pookie Pearls and Fabrics, a fashion and
entertainment outfit, said youths could make a living
from weddings by providing services for weddings.
Such services include catering, cake making,
decorations, selling of fabrics like Aso ebi, provision
of music, bridal make-up and as event
ushers.
“Nigerian weddings are some of the most expensive
in the world and could be very lucrative for
youths. “People who have parties just want to have
the best of their day, but an enterprising youth
should take advantage of the parties; he should make
his income from the events
“Youths can make their money by becoming vendors
at weddings because Nigerians tend to spend so
much on their weddings,’’ she said. She said that
youths should be proactive, employable and learn to
be entrepreneurs. Osipitan said youths needed to
learn a trade and be productive with what they have
learnt for them to be successful.
“They need to learn to start from somewhere as
entrepreneurs and make sure they have passion for
what they do,’’ she said. Also speaking, Greg Igbayo,
the Chief Executive Officer, Jewel’s Entertainment, an
organisation that provides entertainers at events,
urged youths to make something from every
opportunity.
He asked them to identify the role they would play to
be of the most service at events and stay prepared
for it. “Today, our society is a breeding ground for
entrepreneurs and the mind set of always waiting for
jobs, government or friends to provide help is no
more in vogue,’’ he said.
