Undertaker sent to prison custody for rape

 A 29-year-old undertaker, Sheriff Oyewole, was, on
Monday, arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court
in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 23-year-old lady.
The defendant is facing a three-count charge
bordering on unlawful sexual intercourse, assault and
breach of peace preferred against him by the police.
The police prosecutor, Chidi Okoye, told the court
that the defendant, who works in a funeral home,
committed the alleged offence on August 16.
He said that the incident took place at Aro Hotel at
about 8.00 p.m. in Lagos Island.
Okoye said that Oyewole had sexual intercourse with
the lady without her consent and also assaulted her
by slapping her while she was struggling with him.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendant
conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach
of peace by beating the victim and also tearing her
clothes.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed
are punishable under sections 258 (1) (2), 168 (a) (b)
and 166 (1) (D) of the criminal law of Lagos State
2011.
However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the
charges against him.
The Magistrate, K.B Ayeye, granted the defendant
bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like
sum.
The defendant was remanded in prison custody
pending when he is able to perfect his bail
conditions.
